Famous local architect Wade Hampton Pipes designed the Bates House on Oswego Lake in 1954 for his friends John and Elizabeth Bates. This was his fourth commission for the couple. Pipes designed the major pieces of living room furniture so they wouldn’t obstruct the lake view. These pieces were sold at an estate sale.The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
